When a property manager asks an AI for a fire alarm contractor, does it say your name?
Your buyers are starting their search inside assistants that answer instead of listing. We work on the things that decide whether your company is part of that answer, and we report whether it is.
A growing share of your buyers never reach a list of ten blue links.
A facility director with a failed inspection and a deadline does not want ten links. They want a shortlist, and they are increasingly asking an assistant for one. The answer they get is assembled from sources the assistant trusts, and your company is either in that set or it is not.
This does not replace search. It sits on top of it, and it changes what winning looks like. Ranking fourth used to mean a slice of the clicks. Now it can mean being summarized by something that never sends the click at all.
If you want to see where you stand right now, ask an assistant who it recommends for your trade in your city. Whatever comes back is what your buyers are seeing.
Ask an assistant to recommend an agency or a contractor and you rarely get a company. You get a list.
We tested this repeatedly while building our own strategy. The recommendation questions in this trade are answered with aggregators and roundups, not with the websites of the companies being discussed. That is not a quirk. It is what the assistants have been trained to treat as impartial.
The practical consequence for a contractor is uncomfortable but useful: some of the work of being recommended happens on pages you do not own. Knowing which ones matter in your market, and being present and consistent across them, is part of the job now.
Being crawled is not the same as being cited.
An assistant summarizing an answer needs to be able to tell what your page is about, who is behind it, and whether the claims hold up. Trade sites usually fail on the first count, because the page talks about solutions and peace of mind rather than the specific work a buyer is trying to buy.
Pages that get quoted answer real questions in the vocabulary of the trade, state their credentials plainly, and are consistent with everything else the assistant can find about the company. None of that is exotic. Most contractor sites simply were not built with a machine reader in mind.
A page an assistant cannot reach is a page that cannot be cited, and plenty of sites are blocking without knowing it.
Security plugins, aggressive bot rules and firewall defaults routinely turn away the crawlers these systems use. The site looks fine to you and to Google, and is invisible to the tools your buyers are asking. It is one of the few problems in this field that is both completely silent and quick to fix.
We check it first on every engagement, because there is no point improving content that cannot be read.
You cannot manage what nobody is reporting, and most agencies are not reporting this at all.
Rankings will not tell you whether you are being recommended. We track the questions your buyers actually ask, watch what comes back, and record whether your company appears and in what company it appears. Over a quarter that turns into a trend you can act on rather than a screenshot.
It sits alongside your GA4 and Search Console reporting, because the same underlying work moves all three.
The numbers we report, and what each one tells you.
The real buying questions in your trade and your market, asked on a schedule so movement is visible.
Named, mentioned, or absent. The blunt version, quarter over quarter.
The directories and companies occupying the answer, which tells you where the gap is.
Confirmation the assistants can actually reach your site, checked rather than assumed.
Reported alongside your GA4 and Search Console data, in one place, monthly. Not screenshots of a dashboard you can’t log into.
Questions contractors ask about AI search.
Is this just SEO with a new name?
There is real overlap, and any agency claiming they are unrelated is selling you a second invoice. The same clarity and credibility work serves both. What differs is what you optimize toward and what you measure, and that difference is growing.
Does this replace Google?
No. The map pack and organic results still produce most of the calls in this trade today. This is about the share that is moving, and about not being invisible in it two years from now.
How long until we see something?
Crawler access is immediate. Content and consistency changes show up over a quarter or two. Anyone promising faster is guessing.
Can you guarantee we get recommended?
No. Nobody controls what these systems say, and any guarantee is fiction. What we control is whether you are reachable, clear, credible and consistent, and whether you are present where the answers get sourced.
We already rank well. Do we need this?
Ranking well is exactly why it matters. You have the content and the credibility already. If the crawlers are blocked or the pages read as marketing rather than answers, that work is not doing anything for you here.
Do you write the content?
Yes, in your trade’s language, and we will not publish anything about your work that you have not confirmed is true.
The audit covers this too.
We check whether the assistants can reach your site, what they currently say when asked about your trade in your market, and what is standing between you and being part of that answer. No charge, no obligation.
